Wheels will be in motion as the TD Five Boro Bike Tour returns to New York City for its 47th ride through the Big Apple.
The nation’s biggest charitable bike ride, which was just ranked by USA Today as the top road cycling event in the country, will take place on Sunday, May 4, and feature 32,000 cyclists pedaling their way along a 40-mile course through all five boroughs.
Among the bikes that will take to New York City streets for the event include recumbent, tandem, tricycles…even unicycles!
Cyclists from across the country and around the world, all with different skill levels, come to the city each year to participate in the event, which features a sprawling route throughout the boroughs. They will start their ride in Manhattan, head north to the Bronx before returning to Manhattan, then traverse through Queens and Brooklyn before wrapping up on Staten Island where they will celebrate their accomplishments.

Organized by Bike New York, the event raises money to help the organization provide free bike education, advocacy and community outreach programming.
In 2022, for example, Bike New York taught bike riding and bike safety skills to more than 20,000 kids and adults. The education took place both in-person and via virtual classroom.
“The TD Five Boro Bike Tour is a celebration of New York City and the transformative power of cycling,” said Ken Podziba, CEO of Bike New York. “On this one special day each year, 32,000 cyclists from around the world—of all skill levels—come together to experience the thrill of riding 40 car-free miles through the greatest city on Earth.”

Multiple waves of cyclists will participate in the tour, with the first wave beginning at 7:30 a.m. in Lower Manhattan. Similar to popular marathons in the city, crowds of spectators will come out to watch the cyclists roll through the city, cheering them on as they complete their biking journey.
Traffic the day of the tour
The 40-mile route is along major thoroughfares, including the FDR Drive, the Madison Avenue Bridge and the Verrazzano Bridge. New Yorkers are advised that various streets will be closed to vehicle traffic for the tour.
