Florence Scinto, the wife of 51 years of Ernest Scinto, who owns the Back Fence, a bar and live music venue in the Village, died on Nov. 28 at the age of 72.

She died at home in Tenafly, N.J., after a brief illness, said her daughter, Linda Noone, a Tribeca resident.

Born on the Lower East Side, the daughter of Daniel and Lillian Coffey, she went to St. James’ elementary school and graduated from Seward Park High School. Known to her friends as Biddy, she married Ernest Scinto in 1952 and raised a family of six children.

Her husband runs the Back Fence on Bleecker and Thompson Sts., which his father opened in 1945. Four of their children were born and raised in Manhattan and two were raised in Atlantic Beach, L.I., where the family moved in 1973, according to her daughter Linda. In 1993, Florence and Ernest Scinto moved to Tribeca and for the past five years made their home in Tenafly.

In addition to her husband and her daughter Linda, she leaves five other children, Michael Scinto of Manhattan, Marie Scinto of San Francisco, Ernest Scinto, Jr., of Tenafly, Marilyn Porcaro of Manhattan and Lorraine Scinto of Sydney, Australia. Seven grandchildren also survive.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Cook Center at 475 Riverside Dr., NY, NY, 10115.
