Forbes released its annual 100 most powerful women list Tuesday with German Chancellor Angela Merkel beating out presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for the top honors.
This is the second year in a row that Merkel came out first, while Clinton went from 6th in 2014 to second this year. Other women who made it into the top 10 included Melinda Gates, Sheryl Sandberg and Michelle Obama.
Forbes compiled the list using four metrics: money, media, impact and spheres of influence. Nineteen women made the list for the first time in its 11-year history, including U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch, who came in at 34, Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz, who came in at 40, and Taylor Swift, who came in at 64.
The women control nearly $1 trillion in annual revenues and have a combined social media footprint that includes 474 million Twitter and YouTube followers.
