A Salute to Union Square
Former BID president really wrote the book
on Union Square
Jim Gabbe, a writer, photographer and former longtime president of the Union Square Partnership business improvement district, has authored a new book on the square’s history, “The Universe of Union Square.” The book contains nearly 1,000 images and a companion video with exclusive commentary by city officials, community activists, business leaders, academics, clerics, artists and many others. Gabbe is co-owner of the Gabbe Group, a communications firm based in the Union Square area. He holds graduate degrees in history and journalism from Brown University and Columbia University, respectively, and was a former U.S. Army officer, serving in Vietnam. His other written works include “LaRue’s Maneuvers,” a novel, and “MARCH,” a dramatic play. Gabbe’s Union Square book will be available in Barnes & Noble bookstores — like the one at Union Square — and online by Labor Day.
