Fred B. Russo, a Village resident for 14 years, died in his home on Washington St. on July 12 at the age of 40. He was diagnosed in February with melanoma, according to his mother, Concetta.
Born in Brooklyn, the son of Ferdinand and Concetta Russo, he was raised on Long Island and went to school in Dix Hills in Suffolk County.
He was a mortgage broker with GreenPoint Bank and moved to Manhattan in 1993.
“He lived in the West Village where he always wanted to be,” his mother said.
In addition to his mother, two sisters, Angela, of New Jersey and Gianna, of Connecticut, and a brother, Michael, of Long Island, also survive. Greenwich Village Funeral Home, 199 Bleecker St., was in charge of arrangements. The funeral was at St. Joseph’s Church in the Village.
