On Nov. 18, Greenwich House hosted a reception to celebrate the reopening of its Senior Center. Councilmember Christine Quinn, center in photo below, who played a key role in getting funding reinstated for the center, received grateful applause for her efforts, while some of the center’s members, above and at right, displayed paintings they did in art classes. Greenwich House has the only senior center in the Greenwich Village area that provides both breakfast and lunch daily. Due to planned elevator construction, the center had to temporarily close in August 2001. The elevator construction was completed in February 2003, but the center’s opening was then delayed by the city’s budget crisis. With the support of Quinn, State Senator Thomas Duane, Assemblymember Deborah Glick and Rep. Jerry Nadler, the Senior Center’s doors reopened Oct. 1.
