The Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce took care of business at its Annual Dinner Dance, raising the roof at New York University’s Kimmel Center penthouse. Michael Haberman, former head of the chamber, below, got a lift out of being named G.V.C.C.C.’s Man of the Year — the elevation being provided by his brothers, who came to see him receive the honor. Now vice president of community relations for the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, Haberman was formerly director of N.Y.U.’s Office of Government and Community Relations. At top, John W. Sutter, The Villager’s editor and publisher, and Elizabeth M. Butson, The Villager’s publisher emeritus, shared a bow, after Jim Hart, the chamber’s chairperson, congratulated The Villager for having been judged the state’s best weekly newspaper in the New York Press Association’s 2005 Better Newspaper Contest. At right, Maria Passannnate Derr won the jackpot in the raffle, which included a Betty Boop clock, among other items, which were presented to her by Sean M. Oakley, the chamber’s project manager, to her left.
