Fraunces Tavern Museum is offering free admission for all visitors on Monday, Feb 16 from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. in honor of George Washington, the man who made the tavern famous. The museum, situated at 54 Pearl St, is known for the site where Washington gave his farewell speech to the officers of the Continental Army. The historically-attired Steuben House Dancers will be teaching period dances in the Flag Gallery from 1 p.m to 4 p.m.
Fraunces Tavern will also be having a “Family Saturday” on Feb. 7 with Shell Work Valentine. Shell work was a popular hobby in the 18th and 19th centuries where people would make abstract designs and pictures by affixing shells to pieces of wood. Visitors are invited to make their own valentine or other picture using shells. This is free to participate in with the museum admission fee which is $3 for adults and $2 for senior citizens and children aged 6 to 18. “Family Saturdays” are held once a month, on the first Saturday of each month from Feb 7 through to May 1 at 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Coming activities include basket making, period costume making and rug making.
