The sanitation team of the Village Alliance business improvement district, right, has had another stellar year in 2005. The crew’s efforts have helped the BID — covering the Eighth St. and St. Mark’s Pl. area — earn scores of 100 percent for sidewalk cleanliness for 19 consecutive quarters from 2001 to September 2005. Other highlights over the past year included the Alliance’s organizing its Third Annual Taste of the Village and benefit auction for Washington Square Park; sponsorship of a Greenwich Village Little League team; issuing another popular discount coupon book for use in local stores; the Urban Pumpkin Field children’s event at Jefferson Market Garden; and the recent hanging of holiday decorations and lights across the streets. Of the sanitation team’s run of perfect cleanliness scores, Honi Klein, the BID’s director, said, “What an achievement!” She said the coupon booklet was a big success, noting, “Chipotle [on St. Mark’s Pl.] received over 600 coupons!” The BID also enjoyed sponsoring the Devil Rays, Klein said.
