Jonathan Shaw, a well-known tattoo artist to the celebrities who got his start in the East Village, left Criminal Court in Lower Manhattan Monday after his arraignment on multiple weapons-possession charges. Shaw, 57, the son of big-band legend Artie Shaw, was in the process of shipping a weapons cache to Los Angeles when he was arrested Sunday at a Madison Ave. hotel after movers found rifles in a storage locker. According to the Daily News, police found an AK-47 assault rifle, a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, a loaded British rifle, 96 knives, five sets of metal knuckles, eight batons, 2,833 rounds of ammunition, stage pistols and an air rifle. Shaw opened the city’s first legal tattoo parlor, Fun City Tattoos, in the East Village in 1991, and also founded International Tattoo Art Magazine, the News noted. He was expected to be released on $250,000 bond.
