Theseus Roche, director of the IS 89 after-school program, and native Tribecan, will show his short film “Funny Things” tonight at the Pioneer Theater in the East Village.
Roche, 30, was one of a handful of filmmakers to earn a place in the
”Best of the Slam” event Tuesday night. Roche, himself, acts in the film, along with his younger brothers.
It is a Feliniesque film of three clown brothers trying to live normal lives, difficult for them because they have red noses, and they can’t talk.
The oldest brother, fighting his clownish nature, is attempting to climb the corporate ladder. The youngest brother, who works as a baker, spends his days avoiding being hit in the face with pies. The middle brother is a free-spirited drifter who hasn’t seen his brothers for years. When the three brothers reunite, family tensions arise and absolute bedlam ensues.
In the end, the brothers overcome their differences when the baker’s wife goes into labor, and they grapple with the agonizing question: will the baby be normal, or will it be a red-nosed mute like them?
