The Grand Street Settlement, in partnership with Cabrini Medical Center, has introduced a new service for seniors in the Baruch Houses on the Lower East Side.
The program, Baruch Elders Services Team (BEST), will send senior volunteers door to door to meet with frail and isolated seniors to help them get access to benefits and proper medical care, observe safety measures and take part in social and recreation programs.
The BEST network, at 72 Columbia St., will have a bilingual staff to provide case management for 900 seniors, counseling, social services, health education, blood pressure screenings, recreation events and a place to socialize.
The program is in collaboration with the New York City Housing Authority, with support from the Isaac Tuttle Fund, the Stella and Charles Guttman Foundation, United Hospital Fund, the Fan Fox and Leslie Samuels Foundation and Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields’ office.
