Lanes close on Broadway

The two center lanes of already congested lower Broadway closed indefinitely on Monday, the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center reports. Deborah Wetzel, the agency’s spokesperson, said the two-block stretch from Vesey to Dey Sts. is partially closed as part of the long-term water main replacement project on Fulton St. It’s hard to put a time estimate on the street closure until excavation work proceeds further, she said.

Broadway will get a new water main also. Wetzel said no stores receive deliveries in the affected area and bus stops have been moved to accommodate the project. So far, there have not been problems with cars or trucks blocking traffic in the two open lanes, she said.
