PERFORMANCES

HEAVENLY MOVEMENT “Goddessdance” is a Middle Eastern celebration of women through the ages being performed though August 16 at Theater 3. The performance, featuring songs & choreography by Jehan (seen above), is “a fusion of old and new and explores woman’s beauty, sensuality and their changing roles in society.” The theater is located at 311 West 43rd St. and can be reached by calling 212-268-4444. Performances are Friday at 7:30 and 10:30 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m., and Monday at 8 p.m. Tickets for each show are $35.

THE RANTS OF THE IRISH Dee Bolos is the writer and star of “Southside,” a new production featuring over 10 characters that show the audience what it’s like to grow up, live and sometimes be trapped on Chicago’s infamous Irish Catholic south side. Bolos is “an engaging comic, seemingly laid-back though her timing is sharp, and her often raunchy jokes are balanced by an appealing sweetness.” “Southside” will be performed 7 times through August 24 as part of the NY International Fringe Festival at The Independent Theater located at 52 West 8th Street. Tickets for the show are $15 and can be purchased by calling 212-279-4488 or 1-888-FringeNYC. Information about this show and the numerous other Fringe productions can also be found at FringeNYC.org.

SLAUGHTERING PUBLIC DEMONS Los Angeles based performer Paul Outlaw, seen above wielding two mighty weapons, dissects the statements of Nat Turner & Jeffrey Dahmer in “Berserker,” his one man show running from August 14 through 20 at The Play Room. Outlaw combines excerpts from “Confessions of Nat Turner,” from the 19th Century and transcripts of statements from Dahmer in this show that is a “hilariously unsettling look into America’s ‘heart of darkness’ and our national obsessions with race, sex and violence.” The show is part of the New York International Fringe Festival. The Play Room is located at 440 Lafayette Street on the 3rd floor and can be reached by calling 212-279-4488. Tickets for the play are $15. For more information and showtimes, call 1-888-FringeNYC or go to FringeNYC.org.
