Visitors to Governors Island over the weekend probably felt like they had stepped into a time warp. Blue-clad Union soldiers carrying bayonets and haversacks, officers’ wives wearing shawls and hoop skirts, and Confederate prisoners being marched under guard were just some of the sites during the annual Civil War Weekend. The experience was complete with cannon demonstrations, company drills and a recruitment rally.
