Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show returns to the Brooklyn Bridge

The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show returns to the Brooklyn Bridge Thursday.

To get the most out of the dazzling spectacular, we’ve rounded up the need-to-know details of the event celebrating America’s 244th birthday.

When: The show begins at 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, and the display lasts for 25 minutes.

Where: Fireworks will launch over the East River for the sixth year in a row, but this time it will be from the Brooklyn Bridge and barges below the bridge. Last year, they launched from barges between 24th and 41st streets.

The last time the Brooklyn Bridge was featured in the show was in 2014, when its structure served as the launchpad for key moments.

What to know about this year’s fireworks: As one of the nation’s largest Fourth of July pyrotechnic displays, the show will have more than 70,000 firework shells expected to launch from the bridge. A waterfall of fireworks will erupt from the 1,600-foot-long span between the bridge’s large towers.

Macy’s also promises five new special effects — the Wolf Whistle, Little Snakes, Hidden Happy Faces, Revolving Dragons and Multicolor Meteor Mines.

What you’ll hear as the fireworks burst: A patriotic score from the West Point Band and Glee Club and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Jennifer Hudson. The show’s score will include music from our favorite films.

If you aren’t close enough to hear the music, tune into 1010 WINS.

If you miss it in person: If you can’t make it down to see the show, you can watch via NBC’s live broadcast, starting at 8 p.m.

NBC broadcast performers: Maren Morris, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley and Khalid

The live performances will take place before the fireworks illuminate the sky over the East River (around 9:20 p.m.). The two-hour special is set to be co-hosted by NBC’s “World of Dance” star Derek Hough and singer Ciara. The co-hosts also are planning a performance of their own, featuring a dance number and “musical medley.”
