“We got it! For Washington Square Park! First time in 10 years, man!” Dana Beal elated on Tuesday after saying he had gotten word from the Parks Department that his Yippie memorial for the late Stew Albert and pro-ibogaine rally had been granted a permit for the park for Sat. May 6 at 11 a.m. Beal is a proponent of ibogaine, an African plant that some believe can cure heroin addiction, as well as a range of other addictions.
After the rally, Beal, organizer of the annual Million Marijuana March for pot legalization, said pot smokers and advocates will gather at Houston St. and Broadway around 12:15 p.m., then march down to City Hall Park for a rally.
The marijuana event used to be held in Washington Square Park. In recent years the city gave a permit for it to occur in Battery Park, but this year it will be near City Hall.
