Memorial designs

Eight possible memorial designs to honor the people killed on 9/11 and in the 1993 World Trade Center attack will be unveiled Wednesday after 10 a.m.. New York 1 and perhaps other television stations are expected to broadcast a 40-minute video featuring the eight design teams and their ideas for the W.T.C. memorial. The designers and the 13 jurors who selected them are forbidden to make any public statements beyond the film until the jury selects the final design — which could be by the end of the year.

An exhibit of the designs across from the site at the Winter Garden will open to the public in the early afternoon, Wed., Nov. 19. The exhibit will be open everyday, 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. until the final design is selected.

Community Board 1 plans to discuss the designs at a meeting on Nov. 20 at 250 Broadway, 19th floor at 6 p.m. The Municipal Art Society and the Civic Alliance are sponsoring three memorial workshops at Pace University, One Pace Plaza on Nov. 20 and 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and on Nov. 22, 10:00 a.m.- noon. Look for next week’s issue of Downtown Express for extensive coverage of the designs.
