Emergency crews were on the scene of a water main break in midtown Monday morning, shutting down traffic in one of the city’s busiest areas.
The FDNY said a water main break caused a steam condition at 106 W. 58th St. around 9:40 a.m.
While firefighters checked nearby basements for damage, the FDNY said Con Edison was able to stop the steam condition and water was cut off. West 58th Street was closed to motorists and pedestrians between Sixth and Eighth avenues.
The scene was brought under control just before 11 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.
