PHOTO ESSAY BY DONNA ACETO | This past weekend, LGBT Pride hit Midtown big time, with the June 25 Dyke March gathering in Bryant Park, before taking to Fifth Avenue for a boisterous, enthusiastic, and technically un-permitted march down to Washington Square Park.
The following day at noon, Heritage of Pride staged its annual monster LGBT Pride March beginning at 36th Street and Fifth. This year, in addition to the colorful costumes, musical ensembles, community groups, and politicians, came many somber tributes to the 49 people killed in the June 12 attack on an Orlando, Florida, LGBT bar — as well as fierce demands that fear not triumph and that guns finally be brought under control.
