Liquid Assets, the first sidewalk cafe facing the World Trade Center site, opened last June on Church St. The opening of the cafe, part of the Millenium Hilton, was seen as a sign of returning street life to Church St. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Community Board 1 and the Downtown Alliance are among the groups and people calling for a speeded-up timetable to build the planned retail store spaces on the W.T.C. side of the street.
