U.S. Rep. Jack Murtha, the hawkish Democrat who shifted the debate on the Iraq war when he called for a pullout of U.S. troops last November, will be speaking at a town hall forum about the war this Monday with U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney.
Both Murtha and Maloney voted for the war in 2002 and now say they regret their vote because of what they say was misleading information given by Bush administration officials before the war.
Murtha, whose district includes Johnstown, Penn., favors moving troops from Iraq to nearby areas over a six-month period. Maloney, who represents much of Manhattan’s East Side, is a co-sponsor of the bill to implement Murtha’s plan. The free forum is open to the public and will be on Mon., April 10, noon – 1:30 p.m. at the Community Church of New York Unitarian Universalist, 40 E. 35th St., between Park and Madison Aves.
