N.Y.U. applications are record amount

New York University received nearly 34,000 applications for freshman admission in the fall of 2004, up 1.8 percent from last year.

Since 1991, applications for freshman admission to N.Y.U. have more than tripled. During this period, N.Y.U.’s acceptance rate declined from 65 percent to 27 percent, making it among the most selective universities in the U.S. This year’s group is believed to be the largest number of freshman applicants to any private university in the country.

This year’s pool of candidates also have the highest average SAT scores of any group in the university’s history.
