Felipe Chairez, 44, is charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired by alcohol and operating a commercial vehicle with .04 percent to .06 percent or less of alcohol, the NYPD stated in a news release. Police said he was driving a private garbage truck for Mellifont Construction Corp. The company could not be reached for comment Saturday. Madison Jane Lyden, 23, a tourist from Australia, was riding a bicycle north on Central Park West in the bike lane when a black Toyota livery vehicle pulled out into the bike lane from a stopped position, police said. Lyden swerved and was hit by Chairez's vehicle, around 4:42 p.m. Chairez was driving north on Central Park West, the release stated. Both drivers remained at the scene. Lyden was taken to a Manhattan hospital where she was pronounced dead, the NYPD stated. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is continuing the investigation.
