New York Road Runners will have some younger running mates this year.

In addition to the 20,000 adults who will participate in the United Airlines NYC Half, 1,000 youth runners from the five boroughs, ages 7 to 18, will run a 1,500-meter race down Seventh Avenue on Sunday, March 15.

President and CEO of NYRR Mary Wittenberg announced the inaugural kids' race, encouraging physical activity among youths.

"The Times Square Kids' Run at the United Airlines NYC Half is a first for this event, and a great way to celebrate the 10th running of our flagship half-marathon," Wittenberg said in a press release. "These dynamic youth runners will help highlight the significance of physical activity for young people as they run their own race through Times Square."

The race will have youngsters start at 47th Street and turn around between 56th and 57th Streets, finishing back at the start location. The high school division will start off the day at 8 a.m., with middle-schoolers beginning at 8:30 am, followed by the elementary division at 9:00 am.

The Times Square Kids' Run is the first event of the 2015 Spring NYRR Youth Running Series, which includes cross country, indoor track and road running with distances ranging from three-quarters of a mile to two miles.
