Winter-weary New Yorkers received another dose of snow Monday, with some areas of the city seeing upward of 5 inches.
The latest spring storm to hit the city left behind snow totals ranging from 5.5 inches in Central Park and 5.8 inches in Little Neck to 4 inches in Sheepshead Bay and roughly 2 inches on Staten Island, according to the National Weather Service.
New Yorkers trudging around in the slush apparently had resigned themselves to the whims of Mother Nature.
While waiting for the crosstown M34 bus on Second Avenue, one commuter described the snow as “horrible.”
“I know that it is going to stay cold. But we all have to live here to make money, so,” Bethany Barber, 23, said with a shrug.
A midtown worker on his smoke break, John Foster, 42, lamented the loss of what he called “teaser days.”
“I want to be ready to take out my shorts,” he said, adding that there was maybe one “teaser day” in March, when the weather got him optimistic about spring.
“Usually, April showers bring May flowers,” he added. “Now, my tulips are all confused. They are just covered in snow.”
Foster’s flowers aren’t the only ones feeling the winter blues.
“My mood is not in the best place and I blame the weather,” Erin Canning, 43, said. “I don’t think spring is coming.”
While the snowstorm was the source of some commuter headaches during the morning rush, it had mostly cleared out of the area by noon. The high temperature in Central Park was around 43 degrees, the NWS said, and the sun made an appearance later in the afternoon.
Tuesday is expected to begin with some rain before 8 a.m., with a high near 45 degrees, per the NWS.
