Downtown Hospital rang in the New Year by welcoming “Baby New Year” Yuki Lin at the stroke of midnight, her arrival being one of the city’s first births.

Yan Zhu Liu and Han Lin are the parents to the 6.5-pound baby girl who measured 19 inches at birth.

Dr. Kin Kong delivered the baby, with assistance from obstetrics residents Dr. Kim Hartzfeld and Dr. Ava Sierzcki, nurse Victoria Ruiz, and Kit Yuen, director of the hospital’s labor and delivery nursing.

This is the second consecutive year that Downtown Hospital has been one of the first in the city to deliver a New Year baby. Hospital spokesperson Vanessa Warner said since Downtown delivers more babies than most hospitals in the city, the odds are that the city’s first will often be delivered in Lower Manhattan. “There is no contest,” she said, adding the important thing is that the baby and mother are healthy.

Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn also had a New Year’s special delivery. Odunayo Muhammed was born at midnight weighing 4 pounds and 4 ounces.
