The Giants’ defense made it through Week 1 without one of its best edge rushers on the field, but they may not have to do it again this weekend. Kayvon Thibodeaux was optimistic that he would be ready to play on Sunday when the Giants host the Carolina Panthers in their home opener.

Thibodeaux suffered a knee injury during the preseason that ended his training camp early. He had quickly made a believer out of his teammates and coaches during camp with his strong performances before the injury postponed his NFL debut.

“Right now I’d say it’s day-to-day,” Thibodeaux told reporters on Thursday, according to SNY. “We’re still growing, but I’ll say I’m very optimistic, it’s good.”

The rookie had said that his knee was feeling better and he had been out on the practice field over the last two days during team drills. Whether he plays or not against the Panthers will come down to how his knee feels.

“It feels a lot better,” Thibodeaux said. “I’ve just been making really good gains every day and just continuing to kind of bring back those reps in the different kind of motion and kind of getting comfortable back in my position.”

Kadarius Toney a limited participant in practice

Giants wideout Kadarius Toney appeared on the injury report on Thursday as a limited participant in practice due to a hamstring injury. Toney had appeared for just seven snaps in the win over the Titans, but tried to keep a stoic face when he addressed the media on Wednesday.

Daboll had said there wasn’t any injury issue with Toney when he was questioned about the decision to call on the second-year receiver so little.
