The Summer Streets celebration continues on Sat., Aug. 8, inviting New Yorkers of all ages to play, run, walk and bike on car-free streets from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Summer Streets will open almost seven miles of Lafayette St. and Park Ave. to bikers and walkers, connecting the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park. Food and a number of free activities will be offered at each of the five rest stops along the route.
Summer Streets will also run on Sat., Aug. 15.
The band Color Collage will be throwing a record release party at the Fulton Stall Market at 207A Front St. starting at 7 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 7. Drinks can be purchased at the new Market Bar.
Join other poetry lovers at the Poets House Showcase for readings, conversation and celebration in Battery Park City Aug. 8.
This free event at 10 River Terrace will run 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes all of the new poetry books and poetry-related texts published in the U.S. in a single year by more than 650 commercial, university and independent presses.
People will be playing ultimate Frisbee from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Battery Park City ball fields on Aug. 8 and all skill levels are invited to join in on the fun and fitness. Discs will be provided for this free outdoor event.
Enjoy an evening of maritime-themed comedy aboard the S.S. Lilac on Pier 25 in Tribeca from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 8. Presented by Bruce High Quality Foundation University, Maritime Comedy Night will include performances by Julio Torres, Ana Fabrega, Sean J Patrick and others. This event is free and open to the public. Guests under 21 must be accompanied by an adult.
Catch the final two performances of Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure” in The Battery (Battery Park) on Aug. 8 and 9 in front of Castle Clinton starting at 7 p.m. New York Classical Theatre, will be performing the show.
Organizer Art Kibbutz is inviting people to be a part of the Shmita Artfest on Sun., Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Nolan Park on Governors Island.
Jewish learning, environmental activism, art, exploration and spirituality come together at the festival. The ferry to the island leaves from the Battery Maritime Building.
Hudson River Park’s Big City Fishing continues this summer every Sunday at Pier 25 in Tribeca from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This free program is offered to adults and children five years or older who want to learn both how to fish and about the Hudson River environment. Rods, reels, bait and instruction are provided.
