Downtown slashing Two Bronx men walking on Ann St. at the corner of William St. around 4 a.m., Sun. Oct. 1, were assaulted from behind and slashed by a man who fled from the scene before he could be identified, according to police, who said the two victims were drunk. One victim, 26, had his earlobe slashed and the other, 24, was slashed on the back of the neck. Both were treated at New York Downtown Hospital and released.
East River death Police divers recovered the body of an unidentified man who jumped into the East River at Peck Slip in the South Street Seaport at 7:20 p.m. Mon. Oct. 2.
Seaport burglary Burglars peeled back the rear door of an office on Pier 17 in the South Street Seaport sometime between 5 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mon. Oct. 2 and made off with a laptop, computer monitor and tower, police said.
Arrested in robbery attempt A young teenager with one hand inside his shirt simulating a gun approached a woman walking on Exchange Pl. at S. William St. at 5 p.m. Sun. Oct. 1 and demanded her wallet, police said. The victim began screaming and the suspect, 14, fled but was apprehended a block away and charged with attempted robbery. Police did not release the suspect’s name because he is a minor.
Exchange Pl. burglary One or more thieves entered an office at 40 Exchange Pl., apparently through a window on a fire escape, sometime between 5 p.m. Fri. Sept. 29 and 9:30 a.m. Mon. Oct. 2 and made off with two laptop computers with a total value of $4,000, police said.
Shop burglary A burglar broke into a food shop by the rear door at 185 Varick St. at King St. sometime between 5 p.m. Sun. Sept. 24 and 6 a.m. Mon. Sept. 25 and made off with $1,500 that was kept in a locked cabinet, police said. The thief used a key hanging near the cabinet to open it.
Nabbed in subway robbery A Brooklyn man, 23, got on an uptown No. 1 train at Chambers St. at 11 a.m. Sat. Sept. 29 and was surprised by a man sitting next to him who leaned on his shoulder and demanded his wallet while a second man stood in front of him and menaced him, police said. The victim surrendered his wallet but followed the two suspects when they fled the train at Franklin St. Transit officers and First Precinct police apprehended the two in front of 25 N. Moore St. just west of Varick St. The suspects, George Frazier, 22, and WilfredoVasquez, 23, were found in possession of cocaine and the victim’s wallet with $60 in cash and credit cards, police said.
Soho burglary A woman resident of 462 Broome St. near Greene St. told police that a burglar entered her apartment sometime between 11 a.m. Sat. Sept. 23 and 7:30 p.m. the following day and made off with three laptops and various pieces of jewelry with a total value of $12,000. There was no sign of forced entry, but the woman said she found the back door open even though she thought she had locked it before she left on Saturday.
Bag gone A lunchtime patron of Popeye’s on Broadway at Fulton St. on Tues. Oct. 3 left her bag on the back of her chair when she went to throw out her trash and returned to find the bag, with $300 in cash, had been stolen.
Wedding ring stolen A man who left his car at the Gateway Parking Corp. garage at 345 South End Ave. at 10 a.m. on Fri. Sept. 29 returned at 3 p.m. that day and discovered that a platinum diamond wedding band valued at $10,000 that he had left in the car was missing, police said.
Film equipment gone A supervisor of a film crew shooting at Murray St. and Greenwich St. beginning at 12:15 a.m. Fri. Sept. 29 discovered at 11 a.m. when the crew was packing up for the night that TV and film equipment valued at $78,570 was missing, police said.
Bag snatch A woman was walking on Broadway at Park Pl. at 6 p.m. Thurs. Sept. 28 when a man grabbed the Louis Vuitton bag she had on her shoulder and ran west on Park Pl., police said. The victim tried to follow the thief but lost sight of him. The bag had $2,000 in cash and credit cards.
Beauty salon theft A patron of a beauty salon at 111 John St., who had left her bag on a chair beside her while getting her hair done around noon on Tues. Sept. 26, discovered after she left that her wallet with $90 in cash, credit cards and personal ID was missing, police said. The victim returned to the salon and viewed the tape of a surveillance camera that had an image of a pregnant African-American woman about 6’ tall dipping into her bag, police said.
