Robbed on Broadway
A Brooklyn woman walking on Broadway at W. Houston St. at about 2:30 p.m. Wed. Nov. 8 was attacked from behind by a man who knocked her to the ground, snatched her bag and fled, police said. The victim, 20, who reported the incident to the 72nd precinct when she got home to Brooklyn, lost $200 in cash, an mp3 player, a digital camera, a cell phone and a book. The thief was described as a white man, 6 feet tall, short black hair, with one eye brown and the other gray or blue.
Hudson River rescue
An F.D.N.Y. rescue unit and First Precinct police pulled a man, 73, from the cold waters of the Hudson River near the Holland Tunnel ventilation tower at Canal St. at 10:45 a.m. on Mon. Nov. 20, according to police. The victim, who was found in pilings near the tower about 100 yards from shore after he had jumped into the river, was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he was treated for exposure. A rescue unit firefighter who went into the water during the rescue was also treated at St. Vincent’s for exposure.
Rolling Stone theft gathers moss
The owner of Pop International Gallery, 473 Broadway, told police on Fri. Nov. 10 that an unknown thief made off with a $25,000 portrait, “Dry Point Keith,” done by Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood of his band mate, Keith Richards. The exhibit was Oct. 27 and the gallery owner told police the theft was first reported two weeks later because the gallery was so busy. A video surveillance camera shows activity in the gallery but does not record the images, police said. Wood, a painter as well as a musician, markets his art work through Scream Art.
Bag lift
A Soho resident, 36, was walking around Broome and Mercer Sts. Friday evening Nov. 10 when he discovered that three credit cards and other documents that he was carrying in a gym bag had been stolen, police said. The victim told police he didn’t know exactly when the theft occurred and never saw anyone open the bag, which was zipped up. About $500 in unauthorized charges had been made on the cards.
Gone again
Another Soho resident carrying his expensive Helmut Lang wallet in his duffle bag on Tues. Nov. 14 discovered when he went to pay for lunch at a restaurant at 79 Greene St. that the wallet, with $720 in cash, his New Jersey driver’s license and credit cards had been lifted, police said. The victim, 24, cancelled the credit cards but discovered that $200 in unauthorized charges had been made.
Samples gone
A Connecticut man, 40, who parked his car in front of 108 Wooster St. north of Spring St. at 8:20 a.m. Fri. Nov. 10 returned three and a half hours later to find the left rear window broken and a suitcase with samples of original design clothing stolen, police said.
Watch out
A man who works in a 14th floor office at 70 Pine St. told police he had left his $4,000 Rolex Sea Dweller watch on his desk at about 5:30 p.m. Thurs. Nov. 9 and returned the following day at 2 p.m. to find it missing.
Bank note
A man who walked into the Sovereign Bank branch on Gold St. and Maiden Ln. at 11:30 a.m. Wed. Nov. 15 passed a note to a teller demanding money but fled without taking anything, police said. The suspect was described as Hispanic, between the ages of 28 and 35, height between 5’7”and 5’9,” weight between 160 and 190 pounds, with a fade haircut, earrings in both ears, wearing a blue sweatshirt and jeans.
