Vladeck drug bust
Police from the Manhattan South Narcotics unit raided two locations in the Vladeck Houses on the Lower East Side on Tuesday evening June 26 and arrested a ring of 19 people, three of them women, in connection with the sale and possession of drugs. Fifteen of those arrested, were charged, and all offenses involve cocaine except for one marijuana charge, according to District Attorney Robert Morgenthau’s office.
The raid was the culmination of police undercover investigations that began in January of drug sales that took place inside or within a block of the Vladeck Houses between Gouverneur and Jackson Sts. from Madison to Water and Cherry Sts. The defendants range in ages from 16 to 55, and 11 of the 15 are from the Vladeck complex.
The investigation is continuing according to police.
Clifford Henry, 55, a Vladeck resident of 40 Gouverneur St. and Angel Rodriguez, 43, a resident of 138 Stanton St. near Vladeck, were arrested in Henry’s apartment with cocaine, scales, bags and pipes, according to prosecutors.
Albert Torres, 18, a Vladeck resident at 44 Jackson St. and Jorell Negron 19 of 61 Jackson St. in the Vladeck complex, were charged with trafficking in cocaine in an apartment at 280 Henry St. Jesus Rodriguez, 22, of 221 W. 28th St., was charged with facilitating cocaine traffic and was released on his own recognizance pending a Sept 17 court date.
Gloria Sullivan, 52, of 28 Jackson St.; Jeffrey McBride, 35, of 44 Jackson St.; James Vernon, 49, of 28 Jackson St.; and Jeffrey Erickson, 27, of 35 Jackson St., all in the Vladeck complex, were charged in a series of 10 cocaine transactions that took place between Feb. 16 and June 19.
Claudine Bostic, 41, of 40 Gouverneur St.; Dolly Wroten, 51, of 675 Water St., and Denzel Singletin, 16, of 55 Jackson St., all in the Vladeck houses, were charged with taking part in three cocaine transactions in February.
Nicholas Olivio, 18, of 50 Columbia St, in the Baruch housing complex and Willis Febo, 17, of 334 Madison St., in the Vladeck houses, were charged with taking part in six cocaine sales in the Vladeck complex between Jan. 17 and March 28.
Christopher Brown, 41, of 110 Columbia St. in the Baruch Houses, was arrested on June 26 inside 40 Gouverneur St. in possession of marijuana.
Shot across the bow
A Staten Island man with an unlicensed 9 mm semiautomatic gun tucked in his waistband accidentally shot himself in the testicle at about 12:15 p.m. Fri. June 22 in the Whitehall Ferry Terminal, according to the district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors say the gun fired accidentally when Dwayne Baugh, 30, sat down on a bench to wait for the ferry to Staten Island. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where the injured testicle was removed.
Baugh was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. He appeared in court on June 29 to post $20,000 bail, according to the D.A. He is to be arraigned on Aug. 1.
