Police Blotter

Pre-school incident

The manager of Tribeca Community School, a private pre-k school at 22 Ericsson Pl., told police that a former employee walked in at 10:15 p.m. Thurs., April 2 and took her last paycheck plus school files that did not belong to her. Police said last week they have the name and address of the suspect and are seeking her. Police said the school reported that the employee took the school’s roster, but Ayala Marcktell, the school’s owner told Downtown Express that the administrative teacher took her own personnel file, her paycheck and not any information about any of the children in the school.

“It’s illegal,” he said in a phone interview Thursday. “She came in at night when she was not supposed to….We had to press charges. None of the children’s records were taken.”

He said the teacher had a key to the school but did not have permission to enter late. He said the teacher had been fired after seven weeks.

“She was not a good fit for our school, [but] there was nothing she was doing wrong,” he said.

Marcktell returned a message to Downtown Express a day after our hard copy edition went to press.

Police said Thursday they are still investigating the case. Look for further updates on the case next week.
