Pre-school incident The manager of Tribeca Community School, a private pre-k school at 22 Ericsson Pl., told police that a former employee walked in at 10:15 p.m. Thurs., April 2 and took her last paycheck plus school files that did not belong to her. Police said last week they have the name and address of the suspect and are seeking her. Police said the school reported that the employee took the school’s roster, but Ayala Marcktell, the school’s owner told Downtown Express that the administrative teacher took her own personnel file, her paycheck and not any information about any of the children in the school.
“It’s illegal,” he said in a phone interview Thursday. “She came in at night when she was not supposed to….We had to press charges. None of the children’s records were taken.”
He said the teacher had a key to the school but did not have permission to enter late. He said the teacher had been fired after seven weeks.
“She was not a good fit for our school, [but] there was nothing she was doing wrong,” he said.
Marcktell returned a message to Downtown Express a day after our hard copy edition went to press.
Police said Thursday they are still investigating the case. Look for further updates on the case next week.
Wooster break-in
A resident of 16 Wooster St. between Canal and Grand Sts. told police she left her apartment at 8 a.m. Mon., April 6 and returned at 4:45 p.m. to find her front door kicked in and a laptop computer valued at $1,200 and diamond jewelry with a total value of $3,100 were stolen.
Greene St. burglary
A resident of a sixth floor apartment at 54 Greene St. between Grand and Broome Sts. told police that she left home for a short vacation around noon on March 30 and returned Tues., April 7 to find a rear window of her apartment was open and a laptop computer stolen.
False agent
A woman resident of 213 Sixth Ave. near Charlton St. responded to an intercom buzz from a man who identified himself as the building’s real estate agent who wanted to be buzzed into the building because he forgot his key, police said. The woman buzzed him in but did not respond to his knock on her door a few minutes later, which soon turned to pounding and kicking. The intruder fled after a minute or so, police said.
Arrest for entering
Police arrested Francisco Calderon, 45, after he walked into the Duane Reade store at 250 Broadway across from City Hall Park on Mon., April 6 and charged him with burglary. Police say the defendant had previously agreed not to enter any Duane Reade after a previous shoplifting arrest — under the alias of Jason Cruz — in the Duane Reade at 99 Fulton St.
Persistent burglar
A burglar who tried but failed to force open the door of an apartment at 85 Grand St. at Greene St. around 12:30 p.m. Mon., April 6 returned around 9 a.m. the following day, succeeded in breaking in and made off with video equipment, police said.

Tying her shoe
A woman patron of Lemongrass Grill at 84 William St. was sitting at the counter with a friend around 8 a.m. Tues., April 7 and put her bag on floor beside her. She told police she discovered the bag was stolen and remembered that a woman sitting on the other side of her had bent down to tie her shoe before leaving.
