E.M.S., engine crash

Two people were injured when an Emergency Medical Service ambulance and a fire engine collided at the intersection of Avenue B and E. Houston St. at 2:48 p.m. Mon., Dec. 1. The injured men were taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, according to a Fire Department spokesperson who had no information on which vehicle the victims were riding in when the crash occurred on the westbound lane of Houston St.

DOA in Chelsea

Randall Price, 32, of Easthampton, L.I., collapsed and died on the subway station stairs at Seventh Ave. at 18th St at 3:18 p.m. Fri., Dec. 5, police said. The Medical Examiner’s office is investigating the cause of death. Police said there was no evidence of criminal involvement in the death.

East Village rape

A 25-year-old Asian woman was raped in the confines of the East Village’s Ninth Precinct on Monday at 4:25 a.m., according to police. The woman told police she was approached by two males, one black and one white, both in their 30s, one of whom displayed a knife and forced her into a stairwell where he raped her. Police didn’t have information on which suspect was the rapist or any further information on their clothing or appearances. The woman was taken to Beth Israel Hospital for evaluation. According to news reports, the incident occurred on E. Sixth St. and the victim speaks no English.

Stabbing charge

Lei Chen, 25, in custody for murder in connection with an Oct. 30 stabbing on Pike St. and E. Broadway at a Chinatown intercity bus depot, was charged on Dec. 1 with first-degree assault in connection with a stabbing on Sept. 17, 2000, at the corner of Division and Forsyth Sts., according to a spokesperson for District Attorney Robert M. Morgenthau. The new assault charge concerns an unsolved stabbing three years ago of a victim after a dispute over seating on a Chinatown intercity bus, the spokesperson said. Chen is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the Oct. 30 stabbing death of Zhen Ji-Li, his associate in an intercity bus enterprise. The stabbing death was the result of a personal dispute, according to law enforcement officials. Known as “dragon buses,” the Chinatown intercity buses offer extremely low fares.

Shooting arrest

A Chelsea resident surrendered to police at the Seventh Precinct on the Lower East Side on Mon., Dec. 2, in connection with the Nov. 30 shooting of a man and a woman in front of 28 Jackson St. in the Vladeck Houses. The suspect, Angel Quirindongo, 21, of 420 W. 19th St., in the Fulton Houses, was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The victims, a man, 26, shot in the wrist, and a woman, 18, shot in the groin, were admitted to Bellevue Hospital.

Bank pattern

Police issued an alert on Fri., Dec. 5, about a pattern of bank robberies in Chelsea and the west side of Midtown from Nov. 12 to Mon. Dec. 1. The suspect, described as a black Hispanic man in his 20s, 5’10”, weighing 175 pounds and wearing a black jacket, jeans and sneakers, passed notes demanding money and did not display a weapon, police said. One robbery was at a J.P. Morgan Chase branch at 21 W. 23rd St. on Nov. 18. Eight others were in Midtown.
