Car theft
A woman who parked her red Mitsubishi on Warren St. at the corner of Church St. at 5 p.m. on Mon. Nov. 1 returned to the spot at 1:15 p.m. the next day to find it missing and another car, a blue Cadillac, parked at the curbside, police said. There was no evidence of broken glass at the spot and the Cadillac had been parked there after the theft, police said.
Tribeca burglary
A resident of the second floor at 349 Greenwich St. between Jay and Harrison Sts. told police at 7:15 p.m. Tues. Nov. 2 that his apartment was broken into earlier and two Gucci watches, a Louis Vuitton suitcase and a Vuiton briefcase, with a total value of $5,500, was stolen. The victim said the owner of the building had told him that he saw a former employee leaving the building earlier with what appeared to be the suitcase and briefcase. The building employee who had been fired, Robert Gray, is wanted for questioning, police said.
Swim to Governors I.
Maintenance workers on Governors Island apprehended a man at the flagpole in the middle of the island in a wet suit between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Election Day, Nov. 2 raising a blue flag with a skull surround by stars in silver and the words “The Blue Tulip Party” flag, police said. The suspect, David Nash, 41, of Amherst, Va., was brought to Pier 11 near Wall St. and taken by police to Bellevue for observation. Nash, who police said has a history of hospitalization for mental illness, claimed he was the Presidential candidate of the Blue Tulip party but acknowledged that the party has no other members, according to Detective Bernard Gifford, one of the arresting officers. It was not known how Nash got to the island which is about a quarter of a mile from Pier 9B on the Brooklyn waterfront and a half-mile from the Battery. The tide at Governors Island was slack — with no current — at 6:57 a.m. about the time Nash might have swam Buttermilk Channel from Brooklyn or the longer stretch of water from the Battery.
No fun party
A Danish woman, 26, identified as a student who lives on the Lower East Side, told First Precinct police that she was leaving a Tribeca party at 83 Leonard St. at 1 a.m. on Oct. 29 when she noticed the zipper of her shoulder bag was open and discovered that $500 in cash, a digital camera, Danish and student IDs and a credit card were missing. The woman told police that other people leaving the party also said property had been taken from their bags.
Robbery
A resident of 107 Reade St. between Church St. and W. Broadway was in his second floor apartment when an intruder entered the front door of the building, which was open, and then entered the door to the apartment, also open, at about 2:25 p.m. Nov. 1, police said. The resident confronted the intruder who nevertheless managed to grab a laptop computer and software valued at $1,500 and flee, police said.
