Suspect shot on Varick St.
An East Village man suspected of participating in a drug deal near Sheridan Sq. in the Village on Fri., Dec. 17 was shot and injured when detectives arrested him a short time later on Varick St. at King St., police said. William Jackson, 19, of E. 11th St., was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital in stable condition and charged with possession of crack, police said.
Detectives from the Manhattan South Narcotics unit observed the suspected drug sale on Seventh Ave. S. at Christopher St. at about 1:35 a.m. and followed the suspect after he got into a cab heading Downtown, police said. When the cab stopped for a traffic light opposite 179 Varick St. near King, the officers approached the suspect. After ordering Jackson out of the cab, one of the officers fired a shot through the cab door and hit the suspect in the right arm, police said. Subway death
A man who apparently fell between two cars of a northbound No. 6 train at the Brooklyn Bridge subway station at 4:20 a.m. Wed. Dec. 22 was taken to NYU Downtown Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival, police said. The victim, described as a black man, 51, was not further identified pending notification of family.
