Bank robbery plea
Christina Dasrath, charged with helping a rookie police officer rob the Sovereign Bank branch on Avenue A at E. Fourth St. twice in 2007, pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court last week. Dasrath, 21, admitted she received a cut of the $118,000 that Christian Torres, 21, stole from the branch in June and November of last year. She is facing a three-year prison term.
Torres was arrested last April for robbing a bank in Muhlenberg, Pa., and was suspended from the New York Police Department. He pleaded guilty to that robbery and is awaiting trial in New York on the East Village robberies.
Dasrath and Torres met while they were students at John Jay College.
Tag-team muggers
A girl, 14, whose name was not released because of her age, was arrested in connection with an attack and attempted robbery of a woman at 12:05 a.m. Sat., Sept. 6, at Perry and Washington Sts. Police said the girl bumped into the victim, 38, at the door of her building and distracted her while an unidentified accomplice struck the victim on the head and tried to steal her cell phone. The two suspects fled without taking anything, and the girl was apprehended a short time later. Police are looking for her accomplice.
Porn-’n’-pedometer perps
A gang of eight teenagers approached a 17-year-old on Mercer St. just south of Houston St. at 6:35 a.m. Sat., Aug. 30, pulled his hair and made him surrender two porn DVD’s and a pedometer. Police stopped the gang at Grand and Mercer Sts. a short time later and arrested Charles Johnson, 16, of Newark, N.J., the only suspect the victim was able to identify. Johnson pleaded guilty on Sept. 5, and is to be sentenced Oct. 15, according to a spokesperson for the Manhattan district attorney.
6th Ave. cell snatch
A Village resident walking on the southwest corner of Greenwich and Sixth Aves. at 2:30 p.m. Tues., Sept. 2, was about to make a call on her cell phone when someone ran by and snatched the phone from her hand, police said. The victim, 26, told police she never saw the suspect’s face and could not describe the person.
‘Leave her alone!’
A resident of Thompson St. between Houston and Prince Sts. told police that she was entering her building at 2 p.m. Fri., Aug. 29, when an angry, 80-year-old neighbor whom she knows only as “Tony” shouted at her, “You’re embarrassing my wife. Leave her alone!” and then hit her in the left ankle with his cane.
Moped? Nope
A man parked his 2007 Yamaha moped in front of 525 Broome St. near Thompson St. at 4:30 a.m. Sat., Aug. 30. and returned for it at 5 p.m. to find it had been stolen, police said.
Bikes rustled
Eight bicycles locked on railings in the courtyard behind 240 E. Ninth St. between Second and First Aves, were discovered stolen on Tuesday afternoon Sept. 9, according to a resident of the building who notified police. One bike not stolen was a folding bike whose owner had removed the seat and the handlebars.
