Falls to death
A resident of The Archive building, 666 Greenwich St., who came home around 11:35 p.m. Wed., April 8, after a night of drinking, fell to his death while trying to climb into his 11th-floor apartment from the building’s roof. Matthew Morahan, 29, who had told the super of the building that he had lost his keys, apparently slipped while climbing a 3-foot-tall wall that separated his terrace from a rooftop walkway.
He fell 11 stories onto the roof of a passing catering company delivery truck with a crash so loud that neighbors thought it was a muffled explosion. Emergency medical technicians took him to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where he was declared dead at 12:20 a.m.
A neighbor told a New York Post reporter that the victim, a bond trader, went out for drinks on Wednesday nights. Police searched the victim’s apartment for a suicide note but found none.
Rough monkeys
A group of five patrons of the Brass Monkey, 55 Little W. 12th St., who had an argument with another patron during the early hours of Sat., April 4, attacked the man when he left the club at 3:30 a.m., police said. The victim, 28, sustained cuts on the face, a broken nose and a broken ankle, police said. His assailants fled.
Fake leak trick
A resident of an apartment at 83 Mercer St. between Spring and Broome Sts. answered her door at 12:30 p.m. Fri., April 3, to a man who said there was a massive leak in the basement coming from her bathroom. She admitted the man, who went through her bedroom to investigate the leak, police said. The resident followed him after a while and told him to leave when he did not discover any leak. She later found her bedroom in disarray and her diamond ring missing from her nightstand, police said. The suspect was described as a white man in his 40s, wearing a black raincoat, blue jeans and a black knit cap.
Village basement fire
A fire that broke out at 6:05 a.m. Fri., April 10, in the basement of 202 Thompson St., a five-story, mostly vacant walk-up, went to three alarms before it was declared under control at 8:30 a.m., a Fire Department spokesperson said. Eight firefighters sustained minor injuries; four were taken for treatment to Bellevue and four were taken to S. Vincent’s.
‘Don’t cry or scream’
Police arrested Cheika Hamala Sidibe, 39, around 10:15 a.m. Tues., April 7, and charged him with robbing the Solstice Sunglass boutique at 107 Spring St. The suspect pulled a knife on the woman attending the store and said, “Give me all the money in the cash register, don’t cry or scream and you won’t get hurt,” police said. He then pushed her down behind the counter, grabbed $578.67 from the register and fled, but was arrested a short time later.
Apple shoplift
Security guards at the Apple Store, 103 Prince St., arrested Arlen Johnson, 48, for trying to walk out of the store at 12:30 p.m. Thurs., April 2, without paying for Apple earphones valued at $116, which he had tucked into a black plastic bag, police said.
Mugged on Prince
A man walking in front of 114 Prince St. between Greene and Wooster Sts. on Tuesday evening March 31 was talking on his cell phone around 7:20 p.m., when two men hit him over the head several times, went through his pockets, took his wallet with $300, and fled, police said. The two suspects were described as being black, about 19 years old, one about 5 feet 8 inches tall and the other about 5 feet 9 inches.
Gone on Greene
A resident of a sixth-floor apartment at 54 Greene St. between Grand and Broome Sts. told police she left home for a short vacation around noon on March 30 and returned Tues., April 7, to find a rear window of her apartment open and a laptop computer gone.
False agent
A woman resident of 213 Sixth Ave. near Charlton St. responded to an intercom buzz from a man who identified himself as the building’s real estate agent, who wanted to be buzzed into the building because he forgot his key, police said. The woman buzzed him in but did not respond to his knock on her door a few minutes later, which soon turned to pounding and kicking. The intruder fled after a minute or so, police said.
Slashed, she sprays back
A thief who tried to snatch a handbag from a woman walking on Sullivan St. near Prince St. at 8:15 p.m. Tues., April 7, met with resistance when she held on. The thief slashed the victim’s arm, but fled after she pulled out a can of pepper spray and sprayed him in the face. The victim, 38, was not seriously hurt.
Stuy Town stabbing
A resident of Stuyvesant Town at E. 14th St. and Avenue B tried to fight off two muggers who stopped him around 4 p.m. Sun., April 5, near his apartment and demanded his glasses and jewelry. One of the suspects put the victim, 33, in a headlock, and the other stabbed him in the left arm, but both fled without taking anything. The victim took a cab to Bellevue Medical Center.
Wooster break-in
A resident of 16 Wooster St. between Canal and Grand Sts. told police she left her apartment at 8 a.m. Mon., April 6, and returned at 4:45 p.m. to find her front door kicked in and a laptop computer valued at $1,200 and diamond jewelry with a total value of $3,100 missing.
