Arrested in shooting
Police arrested Corey Williams, 30, on Sun., July 12, and charged him with attempted murder in connection with the shooting on Feb. 16 outside the Cozy Soup ’n’ Burger on Broadway near Waverly Place. After Williams and an accomplice, not apprehended, got into an argument with three men during the early hours, Williams pulled a gun and gave it to the accomplice, who fired several shots. One round hit one of the victims in the neck, paralyzing him from the neck down, and hit a second victim in the left forearm, according to the charges. Williams is being held on two counts of second-degree attempted murder, first- and second-degree assault and menacing.
Rape suspect nabbed
Police arrested Ruslan Klassen, 23, and charged him with raping a sleeping woman after a party on 20th St. near First Ave. around 5 a.m. Sat., July 18. She awoke to find the suspect on top of her and fled from the apartment to call police. Klassen was being held pending a court appearance later this week.

Kyle Shaw, 17, a recent graduate of City-As-School on Clarkson St. who participated in a local “fight club” on weekends, was arrested Tues., July 14, and charged with arson for planting a homemade bomb that went off in front of an E. 92nd St. Starbucks during the early hours of Memorial Day. Shaw, a resident of W. 27th St., is a fan of the 1999 movie “Fight Club” and staged his own fights among his friends at Pier 40, which is located at W. Houston St., as well as in Central Park, according to reports. Police said Shaw had boasted to friends that he had set the bomb, which resulted in no injuries. The bomb was planted a month before his June 25 high school graduation.
Shaw pleaded not guilty and was freed on a $300,000 bond and released this week with an electronic ankle bracelet pending trial. Before his parents posted bond, he was punched and sustained a black eye from a Rikers Island inmate who, according to reports, first asked Shaw if he was a member of The Program, a fight club run by Department of Correction officers.
Assault charge
Giuseppe Tuosto, 46, surrendered to police at the Sixth Precinct on Mon., July 20, after his former girlfriend filed charges that he assaulted her in her Horatio St. apartment on Tues., July 14. The victim, 32, told police she had run into Tuosto the night before, exchanged greetings and later went home with a friend of Tuosto’s. The woman and her guest both fell asleep on a couch, according to reports. The victim told police that Tuosto got into her apartment near West St. while she was asleep, punched and kicked her and then left. Tuosto, a partner in Via dei Mille, a restaurant on West Broadway at Broome St., pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and was freed pending a July 24 court appearance.
Theft and bench attack
A security guard witnessed a man taking cologne from the shelves of Filene’s Basement at 40 E. 14th St. on Mon., July 13, and then ducking into the men’s room, police said. The guard followed and confronted the suspect as he was removing the price tags. The suspect then picked up a bench and hit the guard with it, but another security guard grabbed the suspect as he tried to flee. Alty Adamson, 42, was charged with second- and third-degree assault, for hitting the first guard and twisting the second guard’s wrist. Also charged with larceny and possession of stolen property, Adamson was being held pending an Oct. 8 court appearance.
Criminal mischief
Police arrested Jeffrey Graham, 23, after a witness reported seeing him break the front glass door of the Greenwich Village Medical Corporation building at 88 University Place, at 2:40 a.m. Sat., July 18. Police said the suspect also broke the fire-control cabinet inside the building’s foyer. Graham was charged with criminal mischief.
Jumped from behind
A Queens man was walking on the northwest corner of Seventh Ave. South at Grove St. around 2:10 a.m. Thurs., July 9, when a robber came from behind, put him in a chokehold, took his wallet with $100 from his pocket and fled east on Grove St. toward Sixth Ave., police said.
Bicycle thief
Police arrested Samuel Roberts, 53, at about 6 a.m. Fri., July 17, on the southwest corner of Carmine and Bleecker Sts. and charged him with stealing a bicycle locked on Morton St. near Bleecker two blocks away. Roberts was also charged with possession of burglar’s tools.
L.E.S. mugging
Police arrested Marc Cruz, 21, a resident of 60 Pitt St. in the Gompers Houses, and Henry Nieves, 18, of 79 Baruch Dr. in the Baruch Houses, and charged them with robbing a man on Columbia and Broome Sts. at 9:30 p.m. Tues., July 7. The suspects knocked the victim to the sidewalk, banged his head against the pavement and fled with his cell phone, according to the charges. They were being held in lieu of bail pending an Aug. 12 court appearance.
Pedicab purse snatch
A woman sitting at the bar of the Standard Hotel at 848 Washington St., at 4 a.m. Fri., July 17, was surprised when a man grabbed her bag and fled outside, where he got on his pedicab and peddled away. Tenth Precinct police apprehended the suspect, Sandor Sienkeiwicz, 37, on W. 30th St. at 12th Ave.
Restaurant theft
Two teenage suspects were arrested shortly after 12:40 a.m. Sat., July 4, and charged with stealing a duffel bag belonging to an employee of the restaurant at 265 Elizabeth St. near Houston St. The restaurant manager had given Unique Chavis and Jarel Ward, both 16-year-old Bronx residents, permission to use the bathroom, but became suspicious and phoned police when he didn’t see either of them leave. Police discovered that the duffel bag, with the owner’s cell phone and passport, had been stolen, and arrested the two suspects after a canvass of the neighborhood.
Christopher ruckus
An argument between two men in front of 135 Christopher St. near the PATH entrance at 4:15 a.m. Fri., July 10, turned violent when one of them punched his adversary in the face, then picked up a broken chair from a trash heap and hit the victim, 19, on the arm with it. Police arrived and charged Lewis Pinder, 21, with misdemeanor assault.
