NewsPolitics Trump’s crude immigration comment draws ire from celebrities, politicians January 12, 2018 1:03 PM Print Share fbShare Tweet Email The first year of Donald Trump’s presidency has been anything but average, however, his latest controversy has drawn fire and fury from his enemies on Twitter. On Thursday, Trump disparaged immigrants from Haiti and African nations, referring to African nations as “shithole countries” during a bipartisan meeting with senators on immigration policy, according to two sources familiar with the situation. The president has denied using the words, but Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin, who attended the meeting, confirmed to reporters that Trump used "vile, vulgar" language, including “shithole.” The alleged comments sent the Twitterverse into an angry tailspin as celebrities and politicians rebuked the remarks and slung their own insults back at the president. Scroll down to see some of the choice words they had for Trump and to find out who is supporting the president amid the firestorm. Why would people from Norway want to immigrate here? They have actual health care, and longer life expectancy.— Stephen King (@StephenKing) January 11, 2018 Can’t wait until we get rid of this shithole president.— Rob Reiner (@robreiner) January 11, 2018 If Barack Obama used the word shithole publicly in describing any country, he would have immediately faced an impeachment hearing the next day. Why have we allowed ourselves to settle for this insanity? This cannot and should not be accepted as normal. GOP, when is it too much?— Josh Gad (@joshgad) January 12, 2018 A repulsive, unacceptable remark, far beneath the dignity of the presidency. Our country is better than this. https://t.co/U54NdZ9Dgz— Kirsten Gillibrand (@SenGillibrand) January 12, 2018 Today's Gospel according to Donald: "And Jesus said, whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, that you do unto me...unless they're from one of those shithole countries!" https://t.co/4BQMFsGBTP— Stephen Colbert (@StephenAtHome) January 12, 2018 A prez shld really check where his own country is in the rankings for literacy, infant mortality, life expectancy, infrastructure, income inequality, percentage of women in govt, etc before saying who's the shithole country...— Bill Maher (@billmaher) January 12, 2018 Our nation was founded by immigrants, built by immigrants, made great by immigrants. They came war torn, oppressed countries to find freedom and hope here. Our president may have forgotten our immigrant heritage, but true Americans have not.— George Takei (@GeorgeTakei) January 12, 2018 The staue of liberty where #trump’s grandparents immigrated through doesn’t say, “send me your whites only from Norway not from those shithole countries.”— John Leguizamo (@JohnLeguizamo) January 11, 2018 I know @realDonaldTrump doesn’t like apologising but sometimes it’s not just a good idea, it’s absolutely essential. This is one of those times, Mr President. Your comment about immigrants from ‘shithole countries’ was outrageous, disgraceful & racist.— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) January 12, 2018 President Shithole just did something his base completely understands and sympathizes with: blurting out a vile, racist statement and then clumsily walking it back when it cost him money and prestige.— Patton Oswalt (@pattonoswalt) January 12, 2018 You said it Mr Trump. Have the courage to at least acknowledge it. There were witnesses. There is no way out except through. Walk the fire walk. Take responsibility. Call the Haitian Ambassador and the African countries you disparaged and apologize.— Jamie Lee Curtis (@jamieleecurtis) January 12, 2018 I’m just gonna start calling him president Shithole.— George Takei (@GeorgeTakei) January 11, 2018 What he DID say needs to be clarified asap. https://t.co/DyWaibC32i— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) January 12, 2018 Referring to a country as an expletive is one way to acknowledge you don’t know its actual name or where it is on a map.— Bill de Blasio (@NYCMayor) January 11, 2018 Announcing the opening of Shithole Air -- Free, 1-way travel, back to the country of your choice!— Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) January 12, 2018 No immigrant is better than another. A little respect is in order. They are shithole nations.— Ann Coulter (@AnnCoulter) January 11, 2018 Trump calls shitholes “shitholes” liberals lose their minds, stock market rockets up 200 points. #LifeIsGood— James Woods (@RealJamesWoods) January 12, 2018 Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Comments We're revamping our Comments section.
