Raising school money in style

In a variation on the traditional bake sale school fundraiser, Magda Lenski, ULA Day Spa owner and mother of a third-grader at P.S.234, is raising money for the school’s enrichment program by hosting an “evening of style, body and beauty advice.” The event will take place on February 16, or what Lenski refers to as “Valentine’s Season.”

“On Valentine’s Day, everyone gets so hung up on being with a partner or having someone to do something with,” said Lenski. “I just wanted to do something nice for my clients.”

The guests will arrive with a bag of clothing that they no longer wear, and swap for a “brand new wardrobe,” said Lenski. Amy Salinger, a stylist, will be on hand to give advice for selecting flattering items. The event, called a “Swap N Style,” is not new but the trend has been gaining popularity in recent years. Any left over clothes will be donated to the P.S. 234 E-bay store, where all sales go to the enrichment programs.

To compliment the new clothes, Alycea Ungaro, the owner of Tribecca-based Real Pilates studio and author of a book on the subject, will give exercise tips. Lenski will be on hand to give advice on creating and enhancing a skin care regiment.
