After some worry by music fans that the permit might not be issued, the Parks Department has approved a permit for a May Day rave concert this Sunday in Tompkins Sq. Park. A Parks spokesperson said Gerry “The Peddler” Wade applied for the permit and that it’s ready and he can pick it up any day. Initially, there was talk of the permit being denied because Parks and the police didn’t want a repeat of what happened in the park at the hardcore punk concert after the Republican National Convention, when the crowd clashed with police as Leftover Crack was playing. Some called it a riot, but police downplayed the incident’s severity. The May Day rave will be from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. The permit is for three hours of amplified sound.
