A Times Square Minnie Mouse was released without bail on Thursday, a day after she was arrested for aggressively demanding money from a trio of tourists.
Reyna Perez, 32, was charged with aggressive begging in a public place and disorderly conduct when police said she demanded money from a woman and her two daughters in front of the New York Marriott Marquis on Wednesday.
Perez, of Passaic, N.J., took photos with the two girls just before 5 p.m., police said. Their mother then offered up $6 but it was not enough and Perez allegedly demanded a crisp $20.
One of her daughters then handed her $7 and tried to walk away, according to the criminal complaint, but Perez blocked their path.
“I want more money,” she allegedly told them.
That’s when the woman’s second daughter handed Perez $5.
An attorney for Perez did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The arrest comes a few weeks after the city council passed a bill that would give the Department of Transportation the power to round up the costumed characters and topless woman into several zoned areas.
Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to sign the bill and it is expected to go into effect sometime in the summer. But specifics like how big the zones will be, and exactly what the signage inside of them will say is still undecided.
