Governor calls special elections for Sanders’s and Stringer’s seats
Governor Pataki last Thursday announced that he had issued proclamations declaring that special elections will be held on Feb. 28 for seven vacant State Assembly and Senate seats. The seats include the 74th Assembly District, stretching from the Lower East Side to the United Nations, which Steve Sanders represented before resigning from the Legislature at the end of last year, and the 67th Assembly District on the Upper West Side, which Scott Stringer represented before becoming Manhattan borough president. The four other vacant Assembly seats are in Suffolk, Nassau and Genesee/Monroe/Niagara Counties and Brooklyn. A State Senate seat is open in Erie/Niagara.
There will be no primary election: County Committee members will elect their party’s candidate.
