Maria Tornin, 60, from the East Village, participated in a rally to save St. Brigid’s Church last weekend. She has been part of the St. Brigid’s community for 42 years and is now on the committee to help save the historic church, built by Irish boatwrights, from being torn down. The Catholic Archdiocese has phased out the parish, saying it was underserved.
