Mushing shopping carts full of giant legs or other bizarre cargo and wearing costumes, 800 people in 125 teams participated in the annual Idiotarod race last Sunday afternoon. The racers started at 2:30 p.m. in Fort Greene Park, went over the Manhattan Bridge and arrived at the East River Park Amphitheater at Grand St. about 4 p.m. An awards ceremony at which cash prizes were given out was later held at Tonic on Norfolk St. The winners of the race were the Double Red Squad, who received $500. The Best of Show award for best costume and $500 went to Team Cobra.
