Sylvia Mitchell, a Greenwich Village psychic accused of conning $128,000 out of a woman to rid her of her “bad spirits,” was arraigned at Manhattan Criminal Court on Wed., Feb. 6, where she pleaded not guilty to grand larceny and was released on her own recognizance. Mitchell, who runs palm-reading businesses in the Village and Mystic, Connecticut, is accused of fleecing Lee Chong, a Singapore native, out of the sum between 2007 and 2009. According to the Daily News, Chong reported Mitchell to the police late last September. Mitchell’s Village location is Zena Clairvoyant, at 82 Seventh Ave., at Barrow St., where police handcuffed her this past Tuesday. According to the News, Mitchell has previously been busted in at least three similar scams, in which she bilked women of tens of thousands of dollars, even duping one of them to take her on a shopping spree at Ralph Lauren. In this latest incident, her attorney Murray claimed that Chong’s money was merely a loan to Mitchell. “She’s done nothing wrong,” he asserted at the arraignment. “She’s been smeared again and again.”
