International Pillow Fight Day at Union Square drew hundreds of youthful pillow combatants. According to the online encyclopedia Wikipedia: “A pillow fight flash mob is a social phenomenon of flash mobbing and shares many characteristics of a culture jam. The flash mob version of a massive pillow fight is distinguished by the fact that nearly all of the promotion is Internet-based. … While ordinary pillow fights have existed for a long time, these events are massive in scale, occur in public and are promoted primarily via the Internet.” The current record for most people at a flash-mob pillow fight is 10,000 in Atlanta on Oct. 6, 2006.
