The Community Emergency Response Team of Tribeca/Soho/Hudson Sq., will conduct its first session of its 11-week training program on Tues. Jan. 18 from 6-9 p.m. in Room 914 of the New York University Kimmel Center, 60 Washington Sq. S.
CERT, which trains volunteers to respond to emergencies and to the aftermath of disasters in a program approved by the New York City Office of Emergency Management, will hold all of its subsequent training sessions on Mondays from 6-9 p.m. at the Independence Plaza North community room, 310 Greenwich St. in Tribeca.
Residents who want to attend the free training sessions must e-mail TribecaSohoCERT@aol.com.
The program prepares CERT members to give critical support to first responders, provide immediate assistance to victims and to organize spontaneous volunteers at a disaster site. Members of the team will also help with non-emergency community safety projects.
Peter Gleason, a former firefighter, and Jean Grillo are co-directors of the Tribeca/Soho/Hudson Sq. CERT.
