Tugboats will race and historic boats will be open to visitors on Pier 84 at W. 44th St. at the annual Labor Day Weekend Maritime Festival co-sponsored by Friends of Hudson River Park, the Working Harbor Committee and the North River Historic Ship Society on Sat., Sept. 5, and Sun., Sept. 6.
More than 15 tugs are expected to race on the Hudson River from 72nd St. down to 44th St. beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 6, and then engage in pushing contests at the pier on 44th St. until 2 p.m.
Maritime exhibits, food, children’s activities and music will be part of the festivities on both Saturday and Sunday on Pier 44 as part of the Hudson-Fulton-Champlain 400th anniversary celebration.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., free tugboat trips on the 102-year-old tug Pegasus and the 60-year-old tug Cornell will be offered, as well as tours of other historic vessels.
